We here at OTC are thrilled the WGA strike has ended. As soundly as I slept knowing that production was halted on "Mind of Mencia," I'm really glad this business got resolved, because, people, I have a monkey on my back, and that little bastard loves to watch TV. Before the strike, 2007 had highlights out the wazoo, which I will now mention in incomplete sentences, except for one. Todd Barry's merciless showjacking of "Flight of the Conchords." Don Rickles's many talk show appearances. "The Wire." The consistently excellent "Monk" had another fine year. Adult Swim's all-star "Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil" and their licensing of the hilarious BBC jam "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace." "South Park"'s even sharper, even stupider, poo-filled 11th season. The Food Network's "Paula's Party," where Paula Deen's id rampages unchecked for an hour, the closest thing to Caligula on TV. EL-P on Conan. Jay Johnston's star turn on "The Sarah Silverman Program." Louis CK's unspeakably brutal "Shameless" standup special. OK, time to can "Celebrity Apprentice" and "American Gladiators," time to stop watching "The Bad Girls Club," time to get back a little self-respect. Back to work, everybody (including me)!
