After an unfortunate incident at a holiday party at which Ira was accused of Xeroxing his butt (charges, he requests we point out, that were entirely circumstantial, with nobody coming forward as an actual eyewitness), Yo La Tengo’s photocopying privileges were revoked, necessitating an indefinite suspension of the Yo La Tengo Gazette. We will endeavor to use this web site to bring you the same high standard of coverage that you came to depend on the Yo La Gazette for.

Chris Macri among others wants to know if we have any plans to release the movies and music from The Sounds of Science together on VHS or DVD.

It’s definitely something we’re thinking about and hope to do in the future (on DVD certainly—don’t know about VHS, it seems so ’90s, so Steve Vai, so Alastair Galbraith). Meanwhile, if you look hard enough, videos of the films of Jean Painleve are out there on VHS, and we know a DVD is in the works (all with the original scores). Dave Montes writes, towards the end of a long email — some might even suggest too long:

“I know it’s a moot point now, but just to satisfy my curiosity, was anyone in the band (James, I’m looking in your direction) approached to be on “Ally McBeal”? . . . Something about a cameo, a part about a lawyer that doesn’t do work but instead does really wacky, absurd stuff, has their imaginings visually represented, wears some clothes and junk… pretty avant garde for tv.”

“Ally McBeal”? Not to my knowledge. Perhaps you are thinking of “Veronica’s Closet”? A few years ago, Georgia was approached to do a one-off as Wallace Langham’s sister? Or maybe it was the Bernie Mac Show — James recently got a call-back to be the neighbor kid that knocks on Bernie’s door every week or two and asks if he too can be adopted, although he pronounces it “apopted.” If you watch your “Banacek” reruns, you can see Ira as a young boy, on Episode 17: After the Killing Stopped; he’s the one who says “What’s the matter, Mr. Banacek,” although he pronounces it “Panacek.”

And finally James has obtained a restraining order, so no more looking in his direction.
