 2005 Hanukkah Mix CDs

Yo La Tengo, along with some guests and friends, produced special mix CDs that were played at the band's 2005 Hanukkah shows at Maxwell's in Hoboken.  Each CD was reproduced in a limited edition of 20 and offered for sale at each night's show, with all sale proceeds going to the respective night's charity (all discs are sold out).  See below for each disc's cover art and tracklisting.  Click here to read daily reports of each night's show.

Night 1: Jonathan Lethem

Straight off the BQE comes Jonathan Lethem, author of such novels as The Fortress of Solitude, Men and Cartoons and Motherless Brooklyn. He's the only person we know who's won the National Book Critics Award. So far.

Hip hop juggernaut El-P does not play. Founder of legendary group Company Flow, he went on to produce such classics as Cannibal Ox's The Cold Vein, and his own debut, Fantastic Damage, on his own Definitive Jux label. Includes "Beatslope" by Hangar 18 (Blockhead remix), "East of the River Nile" by Augustus Pablo, more.

Night 4: $mall ¢hange

When he's not hosting his awesome "Nickel and Dime Radio" on the best station in the world, WFMU, DJ $mall ¢hange can rock a dance party. He's a very stylish dresser, as well. 1-hour megamix includes cuts to "Bad Breath," by Bobby Valentin, "Ma Nah Ma Nah," by Piero Umiliani, many many more.

Night 5: Gary Panter

Gary Panter is one of the greatest living graphic artists of our time who is not currently dead. His most recent masterpiece is Jimbo in Purgatory, published in 2004 by Fantagraphics Press. He's the only person we know who designed "Pee-wee's Playhouse." So far.

Night 8: Cornelius

Cornelius is a super-genius musician/ producer/ visual artist from Tokyo. His favorite color is orange, and he is very fond of the Planet of the Apes films. This is a CD of a recent episode of his 1-hour "Nakameguro Radio" show, which he hosts on NHK Radio in Japan. Includes "C30, C60, C90, Go!" by Bow Wow Wow, many totally amazing songs we can't identify, back-announcing in Japanese by Cornelius himself, more.
