While relaxing at home, we generally have the radio tuned into Lite Jazz. We have found that they have an almost uncanny knack for anticipating just what we're in the mood to hear. And without too much talk. So we're especially grateful to those of you out there who help us keep up to date on other formats. Which brings us to What's Doing in College Radio.

One of our correspondents found himself in Tallahassee recently.

“I tuned into the local college radio station (you never know what you'll hear on college radio!), WVFS I think it is. We heard the eager and informative DJ making his announcements, and in the background was playing a selection from The Sounds of the Sounds of Science. He then informed us:

‘What you are listening to is Yo La Tengo, from an album they recorded as a soundtrack to some nature films, made by Georgia Hubley's parents in the 60's. When they were marine biologists.’”

Heading north, we find ourselves a little closer to home, in the Ivy League. Princeton to be exact, where one of our more sentimental fans

“requested 'Big Day Coming' off Painful to my girlfriend Holly, at WPRB, the long heady not the rockin, and after 7or 8 minutes of bliss the dj comes back on and she says,

‘Once again that was out to Holly, and that was Yo La Tengo with "Big Day Coming" off the album Painful, appropriate, and quite a long track, so if i ever find out who called, PAYBACKS.’

I just want to thank you for one of my favorite songs and also the laughter we received from the dj reaction.”
